My grandmother, Una Lent, was born on April 21st, 1914. She had spent most of her life searching for her biological parents. When my sisters and I were old enough, we joined her in the search. Her adopted mother was Dorothy Upham Lent and her adopted aunt was Elizabeth Lent. Dorothy adopted at least 5 girls from 1914 through 1934 - Una (my grandmother), Faith, Joy, Carol and Ruth. We have no birth certificate and DNA sites have not given us any clues. Her Aunt Elizabeth graduated from Palmer College in 1918 and had Una with her (newspaper clipping from graduate shows 4 year old Una as part of the ceremony). The rumor in the family is that Dorothy was a nurse at a home for unwed mothers. We think it may be Florence Crittenton, where a baby girl was born on 4/21/14 and adopted but we are unable to find any record other than the baby’s sex and birth date.
