Evelyn Mae Hayes (Umphreys) born 1932 is listed as my birth mother‚ yet the state of Iowa has no birth record of me Birth Name: Steven Gene Hayes‚ The state of Iowa has no record of me under my adopted name either‚ I have a Missouri issued SS# and my mother was listed on the USA Census as being a resident in Missouri as of 1950. However I'm listed as being born in Des Moines Iowa and adopted there. Official adoption records differ greatly from the information the adoption agency shared with my adopting parents‚ in fact the official state records make no sense at all. The story given to my adopting parents matches my birth mother and location. No father is listed on the adoption records‚ his occupation and foreign war service was listed though.
