When my wife and I were attempting to have our own children, I sent a letter to Iowa Children & Family Services in Des Moines, IA to see if I could get any kind of medical background. (That is where I was adopted from) I received what little they could legally give me because my file and my birth parents’ file were both sealed (I think they called it). Neither party could get any information from the agency. In 1963, there was not a lot of info gathered, but I did find out a little. Bio mom was 23, 110#, 5’5", brown hair, blue eyes, fair skin and employment was listed as duplicating machines. Bio dad was 21, 140#, 5’6", brown hair, blue eyes, medium skin and employment was listed as factory worker. Maternal grandmother was medium build and a waitress. Maternal grandfather was medium build and a truck driver. Bio mom listed two older children. She also had one brother that was assistant manager in a glass factory. I was born in Iowa City, Ia, but adopted through agency in Des Moines. That’s not a whole lot I have to go on, but it’s more than some people. I’ve always known I was adopted. My folks were real open about it with me. I’m just starting to wonder now that I’m getting older about my medical past. Plus my parents are both passed now.
