My great-grandfather‚ Richard Oliver Traugott‚ was adopted near birth by Casper John Ernest Traugott and Ehrma Katherina Magdalena Kaus (Maiden name). I have been trying to discover the birth family of Richard Oliver Traugott. I am not aware he ever made contact with his birth family before he died in 1979 (the year before my birth). Richard only learned he was adopted from his official file with the Navy.
