Adoptee1982
I was told that my birth mother was 19 years old when she gave birth to me In Evansville Indian after staying for a portion of her pregnancy. I was told by my adoptive parents that my birth mother was also an adoptee herself‚ and my adoptive parents used Lutheran child and family services in Indiana. My parents received a phone call one evening after waiting between 3 1/2-4 years to receive their adopted daughter (me)‚ and I have a brothe who 4 1/2 years older than I am who was my parents biological child that they had been told they would never be able to conceive…but clearly whomever had told them this was in the end incorrect and my brother was born in 1978. There were complications with the pregnancy and my older adoptive brother was born by emergency C-section and after his birth my parents were then told my mother would never be able to have more biological children and I don’t know if this was decided by the doctors who delivered him to do a tubal ligation for the safety of my adoptive mother or speculation once again by the doctors caring for her during or after his birth. They had started the adoption process before finding out they were expecting my brother and my adoptive parents told me that either due to the adoption laws or maybe the agency’s policies that they then had to wait until my brother was one year old before resuming the adoption process once again. When they initially applied to adopt they requested a child either male or female and they were open to multiple babie/sibling groups should this become available and the agency find them suitable for placement‚ however when my brother turned a year old and they resumed the adoption process they specifically requested a baby girl or sibling group/multiple birth sibling group that included a baby girl. After anxiously waiting for over 3 years+ they received a call while eating dinner that a baby girl was being placed with them and the next day they drove from northern Indiana to my Grandparents home near Purdue University outside of Lafayette Indiana and left my brother in their care and the proceeded on to Indianapolis to pick me up. My adoptive mother told me I was around or a little less than one week old the day they picked me up from the agency and I had brown hair and at birth weighed either 7lbs 11oz or 7lbs 12 ounces and when they first latex their eyes on me I was laying in a Moses basket napping. I was told a closed adoption was the preference of my birth mother because she too was adopted as a chilld if I recall everything correctly‚ but this possibly was simply the preference of both parties involved which may be why I was placed with them idk or remember all of the details precisely. Once they left Indianapoliswith me‚ they then took me to meet my big brother and maternal grandparents And my Aunt and Uncle who resided nearby. They stayed with them overnight so that they got to spend time with them and the next day returned home to northern Indiana near South Bend where I would be introduced to my paternal grandparents‚ more aunts and uncles‚ cousins‚ neighbors and close friends and church family who all had been aware of my parents long anticipation to receive the call that they had a daughter. My father’s parents and grandparents had all been devout Lutherans and had not only been one of the founding families of our local congregation‚ but had been active in that congregation for over 100 years and just as my father did as a child we attended the parochial school that was on the church campus. I am searching for either of my birth parents or any family or siblings who may be trying to connect with me. My adoptive parents said that my birth mother was possibly from Kentucky to Indiana sometime before my birth and they didn’t really have much to any information about my birth father.
