I am helping my elderly mother locate her birth parents. My mother is in the early stages of Dementia and we would love to locate any information about her birth family. My Aunt was 3 (May 1945 d.o.b) and my mother was under the age of 1 when they were left on an apartment doorstep in broad daylight. The landlord heard the girls crying and notified the police or orphanage. Not sure how things worked back then. Both girls had/have red hair, bright red hair. not just a little red or strawberry blonde. fire truck red hair. They were adopted out by the time my mom was 9 months old. That is the only information we have been able to get from the adopted parents. The adopted parents Robert Clyde Minzey and Lucille Dare Minzey never talked about the adoption in great detail and divorced. Lucille remarried and became Lucille Cavendish. Unfortunately all parties have passed on. The girls were born in Indiana and were found in South Bend Indiana. The orphanage refused to split the girls up. Someone has to have seen two little red head girls in South Bend Indiana between 1945-1948. My mom was born in August of 47 and adopted to the Minzey’s by June/July 1948. My aunt would be 4 at that time. We are thinking that my aunt kept her birth name since she was older and already knew her name. They would have gone to an orphanage and maybe someone that worked/lived at or near an orphanage may remember them. I am grateful for any and all help in solving this mystery. Where did they come from? who are they? why were they left? do they have siblings or other relatives out there?
