My mother Marcia Showalter was pregnant around 1968 at 15 and gave birth to Tyler Adam somewhere in Indiana, possibly Goshen, Eckart, or Gary. My mother’s family were strict Minonites and because of her age and the father’s background they decided to put 3 month old Tyler Adam up for adoption against her will. The Showalter family put my mother in a reformatory school after taking her baby boy from her. My mother was so heartbroken and devastated by her family’s actions that she ran away from home at 16 , moving to California and changing her name. She finally reunited with our family about 20 years later but over the course of her life, she suffered tremendous pain and guilt over losing Tyler.
