My father‚ River L. Brown (may also have known him as Bobby)‚ briefly reunited with an old girlfriend‚ Molly‚ shortly after returning from Vietnam in 1967/68 and she became pregnant. The reunion was brief because Molly got back together with another man and they became engaged. That man agreed to raise the child as his own if my father would sign over his parental rights. During that period my father was struggling due to his time in Vietnam and‚ wanting the best for the child‚ agreed and signed the adoption papers agreeing to never seek out the child. The baby was a boy and my father was told he was named Robert‚ though we do not know for certain. I know very little‚ only what small details my father shared before his death but it is believed they moved from Indiana (where the adoption took place) to Florida to raise Robert. We do not even know if Robert has ever been told he was adopted or knows anything about my father. We lost my father to cancer in 2002 and he took with him whatever info he may have had as he had promised he would not seek out the child. I‚ however‚ never made such a promise and would like to find my brother as‚ despite having four siblings in my mother’s side‚ have no other siblings from my father.
