My grandmother was adopted in 1915 from the Orphans’ Asylum for Southern Illinois at Cairo by George and Hattye Farrin. She went on to have 5 kids by 4 fathers. As a result her grandkids are half cousins. 3 of us have had DNA tests done and have reached the conclusion she was a Romanichal Gypsy by our many shared matches with the Boswell named individuals. Further research indicates she may have been the child of a George Boswell and Myrtle Cooper who married on 16 JUL 1911 in Kentucky. I can find no evidence of Myrtle after this marriage and George went on with an Orphean Worton who he had several children. Descendants of those children are the closet DNA matches with all three cousins. They seemed willing to cooperate until it appeared how closely related we actually were and the Romany are an endogamous group so all seem to be closely related. How can I determine who my grandmothers parents are without their cooperation and discover what may have happened to Myrtle Cooper, who we suspect may have been my grandmothers mother?
