I am trying to figure out who my birth father is. I have done my Ancestry DNA and 23 and Me. I believe my birth father is from Honduras. My birth mother was Ellen Ernestine (Monday) Lowery Smith. She was born in June 1936 in Tennessee and died in August 2008 in Florida. My birth certificate says my birth father was David E Smith from Galena, Illinois but I have been able to verify he is not my birth father. My Ancestry DNA shows a close match to David Houdek from Illinois. He could be a half brother through my birth dad but he was surprised to know he may have a different birth dad than he thought he had growing up. The sister he grew up with did her DNA and they are a match to each other but she is not a match to me so this is why we believe he has the same father as me. Through my own research I have found a lot of information including my story behind why I was taken to the St. Vincent Orphanage when I was 12 days old. I spent my first year there until I was placed in foster care on 2/10/1967, and then later that year adopted by the foster family. I feel my DNA matches should help me figure out who my birth dad is but there may also be some secret relationships that is keeping me from going further.
