My mother, Shirley Jean Dodge, gave birth to a son whom she named Terry Jean. I don’t know the month or day and the year is somewhere from 1947-1949. He was born at Bethany Hospital in Chicago, IL. She didn’t take him when she left the hospital. The fathers name is George Andrew Shelper, although I’m not sure if that was put on the birth certificate or which last name she gave the baby. He was born out of wedlock and our father would not marry her unless she gave the baby away. Due to the morals of the time and the stigma that was passed on to children of single women, she did what she felt was in the best interest of the baby. Due to the shame she felt, she married our father in July 1949. Mom was a very loving and strong woman. I think she would have done a fine job raising a child on her own. However, I, nor my other two siblings would be here. I would love to find my brother! We are all full blooded siblings!
