I was born in Chicago, IL at Walter Memorial Hospital. My mother was Jerri Lynne Bates and grandmother was Dorothy Bates. I was told that my birth father was Puerto Rican and was dating my mother in 1968. He might never have known that my mother was pregnant. I was not legally adopted. My adoptive father simply went and declared he was my father. My mother claimed that she had no living relatives. I had met two of my grandmother’s sisters when I was preschool age. DNA and ancestry research indicates the people I met are no longer living, but the may be many living relatives on both sides of my family.
