Hello Kathleen, my dad was born July 1 1932 in Chicago at Salvation Army hospital on north side of city. Original birt cert stated his mother was 16 at the time and in high school her name on birth certificate was Ruth Smith place of birth Milwaukee Wisconsin no father was listed. My dads original name was James Robert Smith.I don’t know if she gave a fake name or not, I contacted Salvation Army records they stated they prob didn’t ask for Id back then. He was adopted at age three to John and Virginia McCarthy out st Vincent DePaul orphanage at age three renamed Robert McCarthy.
