My nana was adopted in 1913 by William R Craig and Josephine Olive Craig in Nez Perce County, Idaho. It is believed the family who put her up for adoption had a last name ending in *son. My mom’s DNA test shows Scandinavian bloodlines that don’t trace to her father. William R Craig was a conductor on the railroad and Josephine Olive Craig as a nurse. I found her original adoption papers and the mother’s name was given as "Jane Smith". I spoke to an old judge back in the early 90s working for the courts who told me aliases were very uncommon at that time. He did tell me there was another name in the adoption file and to keep hunting, I’d find it. He could only firm what I already had at the time.
