I recently learned that my mother Eva King had a little girl that she left at the hospital after giving birth somewhere in Georgia. She might’ve used a fake name. The only scenario that makes any sense time-wise is that the girl was born before me. Mom graduated high school in 84 and I was born in 87. I know she didn’t have a baby in high school. My mom told me on many occasions that “no one wanted me to keep you” and that “there are things about my past you’ll never know.” The reason I know she really had the little girl is because 18 years ago‚ within a few hours of giving birth to one of my brothers and placing him for adoption‚ the agency asked her what she would’ve done with my brother if they weren’t taking him. She said “I would’ve left him here just like I did that little girl in Georgia.” That was 18 years ago in 2005. Mom died in 2020 and I learned about her saying that recently in May 2023. I know in my heart that my grandfather and great aunt drove her from where we lived in Alabama to the Georgia state line to save the family reputation and not be connected to it. I do not think my mom would’ve wanted to leave her baby. My best guess is that they drove through the Anniston area on interstate 20 or highway 78 because we lived off 78 in Walker County AL and it’d be closest to go through Birmingham. The hospital was probably right over the state line.
