One of my largest and most heart breaking mistakes was not accepting responsibility of my first born child. I was stationed at Warner Robins, Georgia at Robins AFB and dating a remarkable young lady in 1975. During our relationship she became pregnant. I wasn’t made aware of her pregnancy until after I wed another young lady a couple months before the babies’ birth in the Warner Robins hospital. The birth mother was a terrific and lovely young woman but not the only person I actively dated. My military duties required continuous temporary travel to numerous Air Force bases throughout the southeast USA. I was in my third year as a technician performing electronic installations. Shortly after I married another young lady in Florida on a prolonged temporary duty assignment, I was contacted by the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in Houston County, Georgia. I was officially informed that the young lady in Warner Robins was expecting a child. They notified me that I was allegedly the birth father. I was notified to report to DFCS in Perry, Georgia to respond to the allegations. I responded in person right away. I met with a Ms Dorothy McCord and acknowledged that I was most likely the birth father. I was certain I was the birth father because of the fine character of the young lady, Mona Suzanne Jarvis. I was advised that the birth mother was soon to give birth to the child. Further I was advised that she chose to sign away her rights to raise the child and to offer our child up for adoption at birth. DFCS advised me that it was now fully up to me to either accept the child at birth and raise our child or to sign away my rights as well, putting our child up for adoption. After consideration and based upon my recent marriage to a totally different woman, I decided our child might be better off adopted to a DFCS determined stable family. My 4 years of Air Force commitment was to end soon and I didn’t have a stable plan for my future career. In hind sight I know I’ve made a horribly irresponsible decision. I wish I had accepted my first born son and raised him along with my only other birth child with unconditional love and devotion. I turned 70 years of age on December 7, 2021. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at a Baptist church on November 1977, in Warner Robins, Georgia. I’ve learned about forgiveness but do not feel I’ve earned forgiveness from my first born son. I was notified by DFCS that my son was born named Damian Wayne Jarvis at birth by his birth mother. DFCS also informed that he was adopted as an infant by a very good Christian family in Perry, Georgia and was renamed by them. I would love more than anything to connect with my birth son to share health info, life experience and info of siblings. May God Bless his life and family.
