I am new to all of this, so I apologize in advance. The information that I am giving was giving to us by Lillian Shields, my father’s adoptive mother. My father was born June 6th, 1946 and I believe he was born at 7th Adventist Hospital in Orlando, Florida. He was placed in Children’s Home Society of Jacksonville Florida at the age of 2 1/2 years old. The social worker told his adopting parents that he had only been there for two weeks when they inquired about him about December 1st, 1948. Once they were "checked out" they (Lillian and James Shields) took my Dad home on 12/23/48. They believed that his original name was Stephen Buzzbee because it was written into the bottom of one of his slippers that came home with him from CHS. Lillian and James changed his name to Charles Thomas Shields. I am not sure how Lillian knew this but she stated that my Dad’s father was a fireman in Macon, GA and that his mother was a waitress. She also stated that they (James and Lillian and my Dad) had a meal at a diner and that his biological mother was their waitress. My Dad also thought that he may have had a brother. I am not sure if he was older or younger but he always thought that his name might have been Pete or Peter, but again, he was not 100% sure. I have completed the DNA test and waiting for my half sister’s DNA test to be complete. We were hoping that the tests might help connect us to his side of the family. Unfortunately, my Dad passed away in 2013, so we don’t have a DNA test for him.
