I was born in Cape Coral Florida, on September 3rd, 1994. The hospital I was born at carries the name Cape Coral Hospital, and it’s still currently running. My mother was an adolescent when she bore me, my adoption was closed, and any information about my father is incredibly limited or non-existent. The social worker that spoke with the couple who adopted me mentioned that the reason for my adoption, was that my biological grandparents may have been racist to some degree. I’m biracial—half black, half white. My mother is the white parent. She has many siblings, though the two that stood out the most to me when I read over the information my adoption papers possessed, was a pair of male twins. Her hair was brown and her eyes were brown. I reached out for information about my birth parents shortly after turning eighteen, though I did not have a strong desire to meet my mother until the adoption agency that handled my case told me something strange. At some point in the early 2000s, my biological mother called to ask if I was okay, though was not given any information because my adoption case was closed, and I was a minor at the time. Knowing that she asked to see if I was okay, I decided that looking for her myself is something she absolutely deserves, and I hope to make contact to maybe soothe any pain she’s harbored in her chest for so many years, while I’ve remained unknown to her. I have never been angry or hurt or even saddened by her decision to put me up for adoption—the couple who adopted me have cherished and loved me more than I could ever ask for, and for that, I’ll always be grateful for my birth mother’s sacrifice.
