My father was born in Nienburg‚ Germany‚ in 1938 to Else Elfriede Marie Passe and Herbert Ludwig Willi Schroder. My father was born Herbert Edward William Holland. His father died in the Second World War‚ and Elfriede later met George Enoch Holland‚ who was serving in the Royal Artillery based in Nienburg in 1947. George brought my father and his surviving siblings (Helga and Hermann) back to the UK‚ and they married on the 1st January 1948. My fathers surname was changed to Holland at this time.
