I am searching for an adopted child whom I named Michelle Nicole Mangogna at birth, but whose parents renamed Beth Ann. I am not sure of the spelling of her name, or whether or not this is her whole name or a nickname for a longer first name. I do not know her last name at all. She was born July 30, 1987, in St. Louis, MO, at St. Mary’s hospital. She was adopted through Catholic Charities in the Washington, D.C. area. My daughter was 5 days old when I last saw her, leaving in the arms of a social worker who took her to a foster home until she was adopted by her family when she was 30 days old. She has an adopted brother, 5 years older than her, he had red hair. Her mother was described as petite with dark hair, a drama teacher. Her father was described as tall and blond, worked in the field of physics. They couldn’t tell me more about his job because it was so specific they felt it would give away their identity. It was a closed adoption. Her adoption was challenged by her birth father the case almost went to the Supreme Court. He almost regained custody when she was 5 years old, which must have been traumatic for her. She is now 20 years old. I have missed her every day since she left us. I hope every time I think of her that I made the right decision, and that she is happy, safe, and thriving. I also sincerely hope that she will consider meeting or calling, so I can see her or hear her voice, to know that she is okay. Her two brothers, Ryan and Joe, would very much love to meet her, too. If you read this, please know I love you more than I can describe. When the social worker left with you, a piece of me the size and shape of you went, too. I would love to see you again. Please write if you get this message. Hugs and all the best, Lisa, your birth mom.
