Hello, My name is Lisa Rojas (Maiden name Branigin). I was born in Washington D.C. on June 30, 1957 my birth name was Elizabeth Branigin and I was adopted shortly after I was born. I contacted the adoption agency, who has limited information because it was a sealed and closed adoption. We petitioned the court and had the seal broken but they will not provide us with detailed information since they cannot find or determine that the birth mother is alive. I was given a letter that was submitted by my birth mother back in 1957 from the adoption records. From that redacted letter I know that my birthmother was born in Kent England on June 21, 1938. She was around 5’6 with blue eyes and light brown hair. She had a brother John born around 1935 or 1936 with dark hair brown eyes and apparently joined the royal air force later in life. She also had a sister named Linda born around 1943 with dark hair and blue eyes. I know that my birthmother got a job with an American family working as a live in nanny. The family had multiple children and she traveled with them from England to America. They arrived in America in the area of Falls Church Virginia on October 3, 1955 a few weeks later then moved to the Washington D.C. area. Presumably met my birth father in 1956, then placed me for adoption in year 1957. The adoption agency said they tried to find the birth mother on records here in America, but since none were found they are assuming that she left back to England shortly thereafter.
