I’m trying to find the adoption records for my deceased father. His adopted name is Donald Gene Kaulbars b. 1935? 1938? d. 2002. His adopted parents were Zanita Ruth Kaulbars (nee Hamlin) b. 1901 d. 1994 and George Ludwig Kaulbars b. 1898 d. 1975. Grandma Kaulbars told me she adopted Dad from L.A. County Adoption in 1943‚ but it may have been before that. She said he was 8 years old when she adopted him. I want to find out for both medical and genealogical reasons. He had severe heart problems as does our brother Michael Vernon Kaulbars b. 1962 and my sister Diana Lavon Martin (nee Kaulbars) b. 1961 has severe medical issues now too. I have been searching for years and we did do a DNA test through 23andme for my brother - Diana and I hope to do so too soon‚ but my genealogy professor at Austin Peay State University said that I had to go back on the bones not the name which is the other reason I’d like to find his records. He was purported to have found his two brothers and both were severely retarded at the Mongoloid level‚ although they supposedly both got married and one was rumored to have had 9 children. We had a sister (?) we didn’t know about until later in life‚ Victoria Kaulbars but she too is now deceased. I don’t know Dad’s birthday or adoption date - He always said he was born in November - but I don’t know if the year was 1935 or 1938‚ his obituary from Brick‚ NJ shows 1935 which would fit with being adopted in 1943. Lastly‚ Grandma Kaulbars always told me that Dad’s birth mother was a prostitute and that was why she kept giving up her children to the adoption agency‚ but I don’t know if that’s true either. I hope you can help me fit the missing puzzle piece to our family tree.
