My grandfather’s sister was born in a hospital in Oakland, CA. The delivering doctor’s name was likely Eleanor Nelson. The birth mother’s name was Edna Mae Jones and the birth father was Leroy Francis Diaz. Edna had polio as a child and it affected her into adulthood. The birth parents were Catholic with family heavily involved in the church so it could have been done through the Catholic church or a Catholic adoption agency, however we also heard Dr. Nelson could have organized the adoption. The birth mother, Edna, says the baby had red hair at birth. Estimated date of birth would be 1948-1950. We believe she was adopted immediately or at least taken into someone else’s custody immediately after birth.
