Marie Elaine Chamberlin is my grandmother. She had her first child in 1944 while her husband was away in the military. He is not the father. Fearing for her daughter’s safety‚ as Virgil was sometimes violent and given to alcohol‚ she his the pregnancy from her husband while he was deployed in the military and placed Betty Jean for adoption. Betty Jean Chamberlin was born January 6‚ 1944 in Vallejo CA. She was immediately placed for adoption with the Catholic adoption agency in Oakland California. The adoption was closed and we do not know the last name Betty Jean would have been raised with. Marie Elaine Chamberlin was born Marie Elaine Gress. She and Virgil Chamberlin had a son‚ Richard‚ deceased with no known decendants and my mother‚ also deceased‚ with two adult children‚ eight grandchildren‚ and as of March 2024 when she passed‚ 3 great grandchildren (the great great grandchildren of Marie Elaine Chamberlin. Marie Elaine Chamberlin went by Elaine or M E Chamberlin‚ and remarried twice after divorce from Virgil. Her other names in life were Elaine Emerson and Elaine MacIntosh. Elaine passed away in 1997‚ but before she passed‚ she told us the reason she never moved from her home on Vista Ave. In Sacramento was her hope that Betty Jean would one day find her. If you are Betty or her descendants‚ My sister and I have broken the difficult legacy in our family and would be happy to know you. I have included as a profile picture‚ a 1987 photo of Elaine‚ my sister‚ and a childhood friend of my sister’s‚ shopping for school clothes in the San Francisco garment district.
