Hi, My name is Brian. I was born at 1:36pm at the Community Hospital of San Bernardino, California. My adoption was finalized in Court on March 26th, 1974. From a Birth Parent Background document dated Dec. 8th, 1972, from the San Bernardino California area Division of Adoption Services / San Bernardino County Welfare Department and from some info sent to me from a closed file, it says: -My birthmother was 20 years old. She was born in 1952 in Nebraska. She is of Irish and American descent. She completed the 11th grade and had worked as a clerk in a bank and in an office. She is 5’7" weighing 120 pounds with medium brown hair and brown eyes with fair to medium complexion. She had a heart murmur and wore glasses for near-sightedness. That’s my birthmother. She had married another man (not my birthfather) in Nebraska in October 1969 and divorced in September 1971. She had given birth to a daughter in April 1970. Her daughter had blond hair, blue eyes and had a birthmark under her toe. That’s my half-sister. -My birthmother wore braces when in the 8th grade. She had her tonsils removed when she was about 7 years old. She had regular measles, mumps, and chickenpox when younger. When she was pregnant with me she was slightly anemic so took an iron supplement and vitamins. She had quit high school to get married. She liked to listen to all music, read about people, cook, clean house, swim, water ski, play badminton, and embroider. It says she was a good mother to her young daughter. -My birthmother had 4 siblings, three sisters and one brother. So I have three Aunts and one Uncle on my birth mother’s side. -My birthparents were not married. My birthmother had already had one failed marriage and was not ready to get married again. -My birthmother’s father, my maternal grandfather was the owner of a used car lot business in Nebraska. My maternal grandfather was a Golden Gloves fighter. -Both my birthmother’s parents attended college. -Says that my maternal grandmother was a housewife and had completed 2 years of college, had worked as a typist when she was single. -My birth father was 21 or 22 years old. He is of mixed American descent. He was a high school graduate. He is 5’11 to 6’ tall weighing 180 pounds with medium blond hair, blue eyes and medium complexion. He had bleeding ulcers and some hay fever. Was into baseball and mechanics. Says that he was impulsive and immature but considered to be a "fun person." -My birthfather lived in Nebraska. He was 21 years old when I was born. He had worn braces on his teeth when younger. He enjoyed partying and working on cars. His parents were divorced and his feelings about his father bothered him. He frequently changed jobs and was often unemployed. He was supported mostly by his mother and grandparents and was raised primarily by his grandparents and sometimes by his mother and stepfathers. -My birthfather’s mother, my paternal grandmother, was a bookkeeper and lived in a mobile home in Nebraska. She had remarried several times -My birthfather’s father, my paternal grandfather, was 70 years old and in excellent health. -Since my birthmother and birthfather were not married, custody went to my mother and she only needed to give consent for adoption. The birthfather did not have to consent or be contacted. -My birthmother decided to leave Nebraska and had started to think about adoption. My birthmother and her daughter came to California on April 20th, 1972 and were staying with her favorite aunt. Her aunt had a large family, it was crowded, so my birthmother applied for aid at AFDC. -A Social Worker said that the first contact they had with my birthmother was on May 25th, 1972 when the eligibility worker who was processing my birthmother’s application for AFDC (Aid to Families With Dependent Children) welfare funds referred her to the County Adoption Services. -My birthfather had phoned my birthmother when she was still living in that first apartment that didn’t work out. He had said he wanted to marry her and that he would try to be in California by the time I was born. He did not call her since, though. She had her doubts about marrying him and had fear about being left with 2 children to raise. -My birthmother’s father came to California to support my birthmother when I was born. -It was a full term pregnancy and normal delivery without complications. My birthmother first saw a doctor for pregnancy on June 20th, 1972. She gained 18 pounds during her pregnancy. -My birthmother signed the Relinquishment papers on October 2nd, 1972. -Many years ago, I completed the Consent for Contact forms for my birth parents and for my half-sister sibling and I was in contact with Gwen Culbreth through all of that. Those are on file down in San Bernardino, I think with the office where Gwen Culbreth works/worked. Last I checked, my birthmother and my half-sister had not done those Consent for Contact forms, so there has been no way for me to find them. -About 20 years ago around 1997, I paid a private investigator who at the time was helping with adoption searches and she did some work for me and told me that my name was Baby Boy Shepard (could be Shepherd or another spelling) and also told me that my mother’s maiden name was Flynn (I am pretty sure it was Flynn and not Flint). I think that info is real. My name given at birth may have been Baby Boy Shepard. My mother’s family last name from Nebraska very well could be Flynn. Thank you so much for helping me, Brian
