On Sunday‚ June 20‚ 1954‚ a newborn baby girl was found in a telephone booth on the corner of Sixth Street and West Grand Boulevard in Corona‚ California. There was no identifying information with the infant‚ and though a police investigation was done‚ the birth parents were never located. The baby girl was me‚ and I have no information‚ and no idea where to begin. My adoptive parents chose my birthday as the closest the doctor could come to an age was between 3 to four days. My adoption was publicized in the local Newspaper‚ the Corona Daily Independent‚ and there were three newspaper stories. My adoptive father was a Police Lieutenant for the City of Corona and was a Juvenile Officer‚ his name was William C. Heckert and my adoptive mother's name was Elizabeth Anne Heckert. Both he and my adoptive mother had been trying to adopt a baby‚ and I went home with them on June 23‚ 1954. My adoption was not finalized until I was a little over two years old‚ because of the circumstances. Abandonment papers had to be filed‚ the police investigation‚ and then when that was completed‚ adoption papers were filed. I have always known I was adopted‚ and it doesn't take a lot to figure out what the circumstances of my birth‚ it was 1954‚ and if you were pregnant and not married‚ that simply not done in those days. I have wondered over the years‚ though I never have done DNA testing. At 71 years of age‚ I would like to try to find some answers‚ i.e.‚ my true birthday‚ if I have siblings‚ basic information.
