I was 16 when I gave birth...My name is Gina Dorine EgilsonMy birthday is June 25, 1972, and I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba...The name I gave my son for the birth certificate was Daniel Anthony Egilson....I lived in Surrey, and my family physician was Dr. M.C. Green...I went into labour and gave birth around 28 weeks, was admitted to Surrey Memorial Hospitalthe doctors thought that I was in false labour, and after monitoring were advising me to go home...I did not, and sometime later it was determined that I was indeed in labour, and would need to be transported to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, as they were equipped to handle premature babies...my family physician was notified, but didn’t have jurisdiction in New Westminster, and I do not know who attended me at the birth...I am unsure now as to the time of birth, but birth weight was 4lb 9oz...and he was placed immediately in an incubator to be taken care of in the premature baby wing, where he was tube-fed and hooked up to breathing apparatus and monitored for several weeks to allow proper lung and other organ development...Although I had already planned on adoption and had selected both a primary and secondary family through the Ministry, I needed to ensure his recovery before signing any papers...I am unsure of the exact date of release from Royal Columbian, but was informed of his healthy development and impending readiness for release, and so with much angst, my family and I said goodbye and I was later informed that he had been adopted by my secondary choice for adopted family....in the 6 month allowable window of anonymous communication between myself and the adopted family, I sent a letter to both my son and adoptive parents, and they too sent their own individual letters, pictures of my son at 6 months old, and appreciative confirmation of the receipt of my letters...As the nature of Ministry adoptions is closed and confidential, the only thing I had been told by the social workerwhose name I don’t recallwas that the family had been planning on relocating to Vancouver Island...I am 47 years old now, and my son is 30, and prior to now, I had not sought reunion as I hadn’t wanted to interfere in his life, and my own life for many years up until the last year and a half has been very unsettled to say the least, and although I have thought of trying to find him many times over the years, I haven’t been in a placesituationally or emotionallyto reach out....I am, however, now at a place in my life that is stable and positive, and my life circumstance now matches my desire to attempt to reach out ....I am unsure of what else to say, only that I am truly hoping that a match can be easily found, and that perhaps I may get the opportunity to see how my little baby boy grew into a young man....
