My grandfather was likely African American and served as an occupying soldier in West Germany sometime around 1947 or 1948. That is all I know about him. It lists nothing other than "Amerikaner" on my father’s adoption papers in regards to his father. My father’s adoption papers list my grandmother as Anna Luise Hilda Scheidt‚ a 26-year-old linguistics student attending Stuttgart Uni. She was born on 16 November 1922 and is from Hagen‚ Westfalen. By 1956 she was a foreign correspondent living in Frankfurt Am Main. Her parents are listed as Heinrich Schmidt and Hilda Schottle. One thing I can’t figure out is why my father’s and grandmother’s last name is different from my her parents’. Perhaps she was married?
