ISO Birth mother or father. I was born Dec. 1st in 1970, Salvation Army hospital for unwed mothers in Birmingham, Alabama. I was adopted at 9 months of age. Blond haired, blue-eyed boy, given the name Michael William Brown by birth mother. No father listed on birth certificate. Mother’s name listed as Frances Brown. She was born in Georgia...23 years old at the time of my birth. She had a home address of 1903 Wooddale Ave. N.E. Huntsville Al. listed on the birth certificate. She lived with several different friends and employers during the time she was known to the agency. She indicated she’d been married and divorced and had a 5 year old son who lived with his birth father. She gave birth to another son in August 1972 who was also placed for adoption. This baby’s father was African American. My birth mother, Frances was 5’2" and weighed 130 lbs, had blond hair and blue eyes/medium complexion. SHE WAS BADLY BURNED AS A CHILD AND HAS HAD PLASTIC SURGERY. She completed high school with average grades and had worked as a waitress and also as a nurse’s aid. Her parents were divorced and Frances had little or no contact with them. She was very evasive with the social worker about her past and her family. She appeared to have had some emotional problems and was dependent on others. Her father had light red hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. He worked as a carpenter with his father. His parents were 73 and 83 at the time. Frances’ mother was 5 feet tall, had blondish brown hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. She was a quiet, shy person. She completed 7th grade and was a housewife at the time. She had had gallstones and kidney stones, and her mother was aged 80 and her father had been killed in an accident. My birth father was described as 26 years old, 5 foot 9 inches tall, and weighed 165-170 lbs. He had brown hair and brown eyes and a fair complexion. He probably completed high school and was employed by a large cafeteria chain in the management field at that time. Any information I can get would be much appreciated. I am mostly interested in medical history but would love to be in contact with any siblings or family members. -UPDATE- Because of this website, in May 2013, I miraculously reconnected with my half brother who was born August 20th, 1972 and given the name James Earl Brown by our birth mother. We were able to obtain an "addendum to original summary" from DHAS in Birmingham, Alabama. It reads: The birth mother gave birth to a son on August 20th, 1972. The hospital called the agency on August 22nd as they had concerns about the mother’s ability to care for the baby. Nurses had observed the mother to allow the baby to lie close to the edge of the bed and not close by. She was not able to feed the baby a bottle even with encouragement and assistance. A social worker who worked with the mother when she placed her first child for adoption observed the mother to be incoherent and evasive in her answers to questions. The mother had given two different addresses to the hospital and continued to give conflicting information to the social worker. The agency obtained a court order to place the baby in foster care. At first the mother was angry then finally agrees to placement of her child as she said he would get good care in foster care. The mother named a father and said he was of mixed race. She stated that she did not live with him because he was married. The hospital noted that a man of African American heritage had come with the mother to the hospital but did not stay. Efforts to locate the father were unsuccessful. The agency attempted to work with the mother so that her son could be placed with her. She moved several times and lived with different people. In June, 1973, she told the social worker that she knew she would never be able to take care of the baby and that she wanted him to be placed in an adoptive home. The mother’s parental rights were terminated in August, 1973 and the baby was placed in an adoptive home in October, 1973. The mother reported that she had been married and had a son who lived with her ex husband. This was never verified. She reported being burned on her lower body ad a child. This was verified by the doctor delivering the baby but no details were ever revealed about the incident. The mother also gave birth to a baby boy in December, 1970 and placed him for adoption. Both our birth certificates were signed by Perry O. Hooper, Judge of probate, Montgomery County, Al. and by Lois B. Payne, the case worker. ——-update——- may 2018 We were able to find our birthmother’s family with dna through an ancestry site that gave a hit on a high probability first cousin who had sent in her dna. The last name was false on both of our records and our birthmother’s name is actually FRANCES LOUISE MEKAN. We are still searching for a half brother born to her around 1965 or 1966 and have recently been told she may have also given birth to a daughter.
