My family has been searching for information on my great-great grandfather’s birth family... The only information we have is he was born in Alabama August 29th 1863. His birth parents died when he was very young. He was adopted by a pastor’s family, rumor was his name was changed to John Wesley Smith after the adoption. They moved up to Ohio sometime shortly after. We have no idea if he had any siblings. He died in June 1920 in Ohio. His death certificate says unknown for both parents but birthplace was Germany for one parent snd Ireland for the other. We don’t even have any information on his adoptive parents either so we are unsure if the German and Irish heritage is his birth family’s or his adoptive family’s.
