My name is Cynthia Thomas‚ and I am trying to help my adoptive daughter find her biological family. Cate just turned 25 years old‚ and in November of 2000‚ she was placed at a Birmingham area hospital under the Safe Place for Newborns Law. Cate has completed DNA searches on Ancestry and 23 & Me‚ but has only found more distant relatives While we want to respect the anonymity provided by the Safe Place for Newborn Law‚ Cate is interested in finding out more about her medical history. She was recently diagnosed as diabetic‚ and as scary as that diagnosis can be‚ it was compounded by the fact that she could not provide any information regarding her family's medical history. Cate would also love the opportunity to meet additional biological relatives if/when everyone is ready. While I can’t imagine what circumstances led to Cate’s placement at the hospital‚ I will always be thankful that decision blessed me with the opportunity to become Cate’s mom. She has grown into an amazing young lady who would make anyone proud.
