A Few of Our Members Currently Searching Within Greece Who Chose To Be Featured
1. Pawolf : Hello, my name.is Pam Wolf, I live in the United States. I was born in Greece and to the best of my knowledge born on September 25, 1957, in Athens, Greece. I was left on a doorstep in the Kalamaki area of Athens. On September 30,1957, I was taken to the Argyropolis Police station, by two policeman. From there, I was taken to the Municipal Orphanage of Athens, which is where I lived until my adoption was finalized. At the age of 9 months, I left Greece destined for the United States. I have performed DNA tests with all of the major DNA companies. I have gained the knowledge that 98% of my matches are from the Southern Peloponnese area of Greece. Kalamata and the surrounding villages are the where I my family lives. Having been an abandoned and non-identified baby, I have nothing to guide me to them. I have had a few strong matched and all of these have their roots in the Southern Peloponnese. My mother may not have been married and felt scared and alone. This is the case with most of the abandoned, non-identified babies in Greece at that time. This was considered a scandal and brought shame to the families. Being adopted and searching for family is a difficult task and these circumstances add to the difficulty. They prevent people in Greece from stepping forward. I have been on a arduous search for 15 years and have made three trips to Greece to look for leads. I did uncover the address where I was left and the names of the people living in the home, at that time. I remain hopeful! Thank you for reading this.post!
2. Vaggfs : My brother was taken away without our parent’s approval.
Actually the parents were told the boy died right after birth, but they were not allowed to see the body of the child.
I am his twin sister!
I am sure my brother is somewhere out there and is looking for his real family too.
We were born together in March 11th 1962, but I am sure the adoption papers would have an altered date of birth and location, to avoid tracking back.
5. Annamariak : The adoption took place in Thessaloniki‚ Greece. It was a private adoption. She was at Agios STYLIANOS orphanage from middle 1957 to middle 1958.
The couple who adopted her was from abroad (the man maybe from USA but his spoose from Greece).
Her father’s name was Nikolaos or Nikos (kriaris or kriarakis) and her mother’s Maria or Marika Kolesidou. She was adopted between 1958-1960.
Her birth name was Aikaterini. Her father was from Crete and her mother from Kilkis but they lived in Thessaloniki.
I am Anna her sister from her father’s second marriage.
6. Cretanmags : I am helping my cousin in Greece find his brother.
His brother was born in The Pananeio Hospital Heraklion, Crete on July 26 1968.
He had to be taken to Athens To Aghia Sophia Hospital within a couple of days of his birth for a surgical procedure. The baby was accompanied by his father.
While in hospital in Athens my uncle was told the baby died (August 11) He was then given a sealed box said to have contained the baby’s body. He had the box buried in a cemetary in Athens and returned to Crete. He never saw the baby’s body.
We suspect the baby was illegally given up for adoption, as were many others during that period in Greece with similar stories.
7. Greekmom : Name on adoption papers is Maria g somalias not sure if that’s real or a "Jane doe"
I was adopted from agios stylianos foundling asylu

13. AthDubZrh : Resided at Matera orphanage in Athens until adopted‚ in May 1963‚ along with another baby girl born July 1962‚ by our adopted parents who were living in Ethiopia at that time. I was told I had another sibling‚ a boy‚ which my birth mother kept.
14. Volos1966male : My American name is Steven and I was adopted from an orphanage out of Frankfurt, Germany and the dates I have from a handwritten document by my adopted father says March 1967-June 1968.
My adopted parents are both deceased and the only document in my possession is my passport from the time period of the adoption.
I was told my birthdate is Aug. 11, 1966 and there was a physical impairment issues with my eyes. Surgery was done in the U.S. to correct the problem.. This may have been a contributing factor to the adoption.
My passport is Greek and it states a (Pre Nom) reference as Evangelos and a (Nom) as Argupopoulos
I am taking a guess this might have been the name I was given.
(Ovoua) greek word referencing Eyarrenoz or Eyarrenos. I can’t identify if the last letter is a z or s.

I am trying to find information to help me find my Greek family, my adoption papers, birth certificate or anything to assist me in locating this information. I do not know if my Greek family knows of my existence or if they have ever tried to find me.. I would like to know if I have family still living and or siblings.
I would appreciate any assistance or helpful resources..
15. Pdxalexa : I was born in Greece in 1955. My mother’s name was Maria Antonopoulou. I believe that surname is common in the Peloponese region of Greece. I was adopted from the orphanage in Athens by Greek American parents who lived in Chicago, Illinois. I would like to find any records confirming my birth in Greece and any information available about my biological mother, father and any siblings.
I was matched with my birth mother just minutes after setting up my profile. It turns out that she had been searching for me for years. It's been a joy to connect with her and the rest of my biological family.
