From Hobart to Smithton and everywhere in between, if both parties want to meet then you can find each other on Adopted.com! Tasmania law recognizes that adopted persons have the right to know their origins and identity, and therefore provides for adult adopted persons to have access to their original birth record and other records associated with the adoption. 99. GayleneJohnstone : My name is Gaylene Hays (nee Johnstone). My parents Alan Laurence Johnstone and Nesta Grace Johnstone had me in 1954, my brother Gregory in 1955, then lost a baby due to miscarriage. My mum was then pregnant with twins (boy and girl). They were born at the Devon Hospital in Latrobe Tasmania, now known as Strathdevon Aged Care. They were born at 8 months and both were born alive, as my mum said the boy was born in the bed she was put in and she was unattended, he was crying when he was born and the little nurse came in and whisked him away. When she came back mum complained of pains and the little nurse went to see the matron who advised that Mrs Johnstone has just had a baby so of course she would still have pains. When the little nurse came back mum had delivered a baby girl in the bed and she was crying whereupon the little nurse whisked her away as well. Mum never saw the babies again. My dad came to the hospital the next day and took mum home from hospital and they never spoke about the birth of the twins. My Dad Alan passed away in 1971 and my mum Nesta passed away in 2003. I tried to find out about the babies in 2000 while my mum was still alive and while she could give me as much information as possible but unfortunately a requested birth certificate for babies Johnstone (years 1958-1962) advised their was no record of birth of twin babies Johnstone. I checked the death registries (Funeral documents) along the North West Coast of Tasmania and nothing recorded from 1954-1971. I am hoping that maybe the babies were adopted for some reason and if so I would love to have contact with them if they wish to do so as well. Thanking you kindly for any help and support that you can advise.
