79. WaspStar : Hi, I’m trying to find the birth parents of my great grandmother, who was put up for adoption at birth. She was born circa 1892 in South Africa, on her marriage certificate, it says "Cape Colony" but could also have been in the Johannesburg area. From a DNA test, I have discovered that she was from a Ashkenazi Jewish family. I have traced a number of DNA matches and I am fairly certain that I know of her family line, but I’m still not 100% certain who her birth parents would have been as a couple of things don’t tie up, mainly her date of birth. I would like to be able to obtain any information regarding her adoption, I know it was a long time ago, but it would be fantastic if i could tie up this family mystery.

It was a huge family secret. I don’t have much information, as my mother passed tragically in a car accident in 1989. She mentioned my sister often but I was to young to remember details like date of birth or year of birth. My mother named her Laura.

86. HarryO : Looking to try find a 1/2 brother that my mother only told us about just before she passed away. Unfortunately I don’t have much to go on - He would have been born to Mary Maude Brotherton in the early 1950’s and was forcibly adopted out at birth - sort of thing that happened to single mothers in those days. Not sure which hospital but assume it’s in the JHB area as they lived in Witchwood‚ Germiston. If he wants to know about her will I gladly fill the gaps. Also mom never forgave herself for it and carried a lot of guilt throughout her life and I would like him to know that. As soon as she told us all the depression and sadness made a lot more sense. I believe that the birth & adoption records are sealed so I will not be able to access them - is this correct? Here’s hoping?
