He was born on 30th October 1965‚ and I believe his biological mother did not want to let him go but coming from a staunch NG Kerk family‚ she had to relinquish him. My father died when I was 16 months old and my adopted grandmother let the adoption agency in Cape Town know of his passing. His biological mother and sister tried to contact me when I was 8 (around 1998/99) but my adopted grandmother wouldn’t let her contact me. My adopted grandmother has now passed away and I would like to get in touch with my biological family.

She went to Umtata High School. Others say she was brought from Bloemfontein and was born there. in various family genealogy records her name isn’t among her adoptive family’s siblings. Her adoptive parents names were Mabel and James Hardwich. There biological children were: Edward Lesley‚ Mavis and Ivan. She could have been born between 1917-1923. She died in approximately 1973 and was buried in Sandfontein in Pretoria. She married Daniel Wilhelm Van der Meulen. I am Patricia van der Meulen‚ their only daughter. I need to know my mothers biological parents -their names and surnames‚ dates of birth and where they were born.

Unfortunately I don’t have much to go on - He would have been born to Mary Maude Brotherton in the early 1950’s and was forcibly adopted out at birth - sort of thing that happened to single mothers in those days. Not sure which hospital but assume it’s in the JHB area as they lived in Witchwood‚ Germiston. If he wants to know about her will I gladly fill the gaps. Also mom never forgave herself for it and carried a lot of guilt throughout her life and I would like him to know that. As soon as she told us all the depression and sadness made a lot more sense. I believe that the birth & adoption records are sealed so I will not be able to access them - is this correct? Here’s hoping?
